Frequently Asked Questions

We have formulated common questions regarding the Title 24 forms registration process.

Why do I have a Watermark on my CF-1R?

The CF-1R shown in EnergyPro is generated by the California Energy Commission online report generator.  The CEC report generator includes the watermark to ensure that projects that require HERS registration do not get submitted without first being registered.  The determination of the watermark and resulting HERS registration is made by the CEC report engine, not EnergyPro.

How do I get rid of the Watermark on my CF-1R?

The CF-1R must be registered with CHEERS or CalCERTS.  Once it is registered, they will issue a new CF-1R to you that does not include the watermark.  EnergyPro cannot remove the watermark, only they can.

I have a Watermark and I don't think I should?

The CEC Report Generator controls the Watermark, not EnergyPro.  Please don't contact us to bring this to our attention, we have no control over the report generator.

I uploaded my Registration file to the HERS provider and they report back errors, what do I do?

Please contact their technical support.  The file we produce comes from the CEC engine, so essentialy it is the CEC's file you are uploading.  Problems with uploading should be addressed by the HERS provider technical support.

Why do I need to register a CF-1R?

The California Energy Commission requires any residential Title 24 projects that are subject to HERS (Home Energy Rating Systems) testing to have the CF-1R registered with an approved HERS provider.  If your project has any measures that require testing, the CF-1R must be registered.

Why are CF-1R registrations suddenly being triggered?

In the 2013 Title 24 Standards, the CEC introduced new mandatory testing requirements related to HVAC system and IAQ fans.  Thus, any ducted systems must have HERS testing, and all IAQ fans, which in turn means the CF-1Rs must be registered.

My CF-1R still has a Watermark?

You are looking at the CF-1R from within EnergyPro.  That Watermark can never be removed.  The version you will need to use is the one that is generated from the CHEERS or CalCERTS website.  Once you have uploaded the XML registration file generated by EnergyPro, the HERS provider will then issue the final, registered form.  Note they will require the necessary signatures from you and the designer before that occurs.

Here are instructions for how to do that with CHEERS - https://www.cheerstraining.com

What will happen if I do not register my CF-1R?

Building departments have been instructed by the State to reject any CF-1Rs that are not registered that require HERS verification.

How much does it cost to register my CF-1R?

EnergySoft will charge you $7 to register the CF-1R. This will be subtracted from your account balance automatically.

Do I also have to pay a fee to the HERS provier to register a CF-1R?

EnergySoft has an arrangement with CHEERS such that there is be no additional charge from their side for the CF-1R registration for EnergyPro users. CalCERTS has decided that they will charge an additional fee for the registration at their website.

Other software programs do not charge a fee to register projects, why do you?

We have worked out an arrangement with CHEERS so the fee gets handled at the software end instead of at the website.

What is the process for CF-1R registration?

1.       The first step is to establish an account with CHEERS or CalCERTS who are the HERS providers our software can register projects with.  There is no charge to establish an account with them.

2.       Now go into Tools | Register CF-1R in EnergyPro.

3.       The next step is to put some money on your account with EnergySoft so that you can automatically do the registrations.  We recommend that you put at least enough for 10 projects so you do not have to repeat this process, but you can put any amount from $8 on up.   This is also done from the Tools | Register CF-1R screen.

4.       Now you can open your project and are ready to register your project from the Tools | Register CF-1R screen.  Simply click Register CF-1R and your project will be saved to disk as an encrypted XML file.

5.       Now you can upload your XML file to the CHEERS or CalCERTS website.

What about signatures required for the CF-1R?

The HERS provider website will give you the ability to put your signature on the CF-1R automatically when you setup your account.  The Project Designer will still need to place their signature via the HERS provider website.  You can get more information on this process at the HERS provider website.

What if I register a project and then change my mind?

Once you register a project your account will be debited the registration fee.  We cannot do anything for you at that point.  Please do not call us and request a refund as we have no way to process it, nor is it worth your time or ours to deal with such a small fee.  The software will warn you before it charges your account, so you have the ability to say no at that point.

How can I add money to my EnergySoft Account?

Under Tools | Register, the Account tab will allow you to add funds.  Note that all payment processing is handled by PayPal and we collect no credit card information.  You do not need a PayPal account with this option.  Another option is to send a check to us, and we can add funds to your account, but this will take a few days.

I have extra funds on my EnergySoft registration account.  How do I get a refund?

We encourage you to put extra funds on your account to avoid the hassle of doing it every week or month.  Please e-mail sales@energysoft.com and they will issue you a refund for unused funds.

I have three people at my office who need to register reports, can I do this on multiple computers?

Your EnergySoft account is tied to your EnergyPro user number, so your office will have one account with us for the purposes of funds.  You can have as many people in your office that have a licensed version of EnergyPro registering projects using that account.  Fees will come out of your account with EnergySoft each time a project is registered, and the account activiy tab will note which computer in your office was used for the registration.

How can I see the account activity for my registrations?

Under Tools | Register, there is a tab that will show you all account activity related to your EnergySoft account.

I already registered my project, and now I have changes I need to make.  Do I need to redo the registration?

You will need to re-register the project from within EnergyPro.  If you wish a credit for the fee, let support@regt24.com know, they will credit your account.
